Treat Yourself To Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Dolcetto, Moscato D'asti And Truffle
Saturday – Arrival in Torino and welcome dinner
A royal atmosphere will welcome you upon your arrival to Torino (Turin). Your accommodation will be in the heart of Torino at a charming four-star, Italian-style hotel with deluxe rooms. We’ll enjoy a welcome dinner together at a traditional trattoria in the city center.
Sunday – Guided tour through Torino, drive to Langhe and Dogliani, and a wine tasting
Sunday will begin with an English guided tour through Torino, the first capital of Italy. You will learn about the city’s history and the Italian royal Sovoia family as we reflect in the city’s architecture and culture.
Lunch will be on your own and you will have the opportunity to get lost within the streets of Torino and its many cafes. This is the perfect opportunity to experience its intriguing mix of art and cuisine.
In the afternoon, we will depart to the Langhe area with hills are known for some of the most famous wines of Piemonte like Dolcetto, Moscato d’Asti, Barolo, Barbera, and Barbaresco. We will be hosted at a beautiful traditional house, or “casolare,” in the Dogliani hills. There we will enjoy a wine tasting with the homeowners amongst beautiful views of the countryside and their painted vineyards. Dinner will follow at a traditional restaurant in the nearby historical village with dishes from the Langhe area.
Monday – Wine tasting, scenic tour, and aperitif at a special place
In the morning we will visit the Fontanafredda winery that is known for its rich history and tradition. Here we will learn about this establishment that originally belonged to the royal Savoia family and taste their fabulous wines. After the tasting, we will take a scenic drive through a panoramic road with never ending hills and vineyards toward Serralunga and a 14th-century castle.
We will have lunch at a trattoria in Serralunga and then return to our accommodations for a short rest.
In the late afternoon, we will drive to Monforte to an incredible antique building, where we will delight in aperitif at its outstanding wine bar. Dinner will follow shortly after at a nearby restaurant.
Tuesday – A traditional truffle hunt, a winery visit and tasting, and dinner with family
We will begin the morning with a drive to a small town in the Langhe area where we will join a truffle hunter, or “trifulao,” in his hunt. As we accompany him through the countryside, we will learn the secrets of an expert truffle hunter and his faithful scent dog as we search for the delicate treasures in the white truffle capital of Italy. If weather permits, we will enjoy a lunch outside at a nearby restaurant following our hunt.
We will then return to the hotel, where you will have some free time to rest, eat lunch, and prepare for the rest of the day.
In the afternoon, we will visit a family-owned winery specializing in Dolcetto di Dogliani. Together, we will prepare a traditional Piemontese dinner and, of course, taste some of their famous wine which may very well be some of the best of your life.
Wednesday – Tastings in Barbaresco and Moscato d’Asti and a visit to a Torrone factory
Wednesday morning we will drive to a small town known for its famous wine, Barbaresco, where we will have a tasting at a local family winery with a fantastic view.
We will then take a short drive to the Moscato d’Asti area for a tasting of this sweet wine with Claudio and his family. There we will enjoy lunch with Claudio’s family with salumi, pasta, vegetables, and meat all made with fresh ingredients from their farmhouse.
After lunch, we will visit a torrone (nougat) factory where we will see how this typical Piemonte sweet is made with honey and nuts. We will return to our hotel for a brief rest and enjoy dinner nearby.
Thursday – Barolo wine tasting, and farewell dinner inside an antique fortress
Thursday will begin with a drive to the terrace of Langhe, La Morra. This village is the heart of Barolo wine production and has incredible panoramic views of the Langhe area.
We will then drive to Barolo, the Italian village known for the most famous wine of the Piemonte region. Here we will enjoy a wine tasting and light lunch at the Marchesi di Barolo famous winery.
We will return to our hotel following lunch, and in the afternoon we will drive to the Castello di Grinzane Cavour where we will delight in a farewell dinner together. From its history to its wine, Piemonte is truly unforgettable!
